How We See Design
Overview
HEVAN, an underground industrial music artist, approached me to center a generative creative coding project around his music. We explored how code could be used as a design tool to visually interpret his sound, an approach that naturally mirrors the layered, textural nature of his work.
Using Processing, the bulk of the visual design was built through code. The front features sine wave forms, a visual echo of sound itself, and the back an eye that nods to the album title. The tracklist follows the curve of the eye, integrating typography directly into the generative form. The project pulled from a palette of muted dusty tones developed collaboratively with the artist.
The package was brought to life physically, with the vinyl sleeve and cassette insert hand-constructed from print and the sticker set sent into production with a third-party. This took an understanding of packaging from concept to physical execution—how a design system translates across formats and scales in the real world.
Deliverables included a vinyl cover, cassette tape, and a sticker set, designed, physically produced, and photographed as a cohesive release package.
